Updated Information on the Terrorist Attack in Dagestan

More than 15 police officers and several civilians have died as a result of terrorist attacks that occurred in Dagestan on Sunday evening, including Father Nikolai, who had served for over 40 years in the Orthodox Church of Derbent.

According to RIA Novosti, this information was shared by the head of the Republic of Dagestan, Sergey Melikov, in a video posted on his Telegram channel. Melikov stated that the active phase of operational combat actions in Makhachkala and Derbent has concluded, with six terrorists eliminated. He also noted that the situation in Dagestan is under the control of state structures and law enforcement.

The regional head added that mourning days have been declared in Dagestan on June 24, 25, and 26.

It is worth mentioning that on Sunday evening, a group of armed individuals opened fire towards a synagogue and an Orthodox church in Derbent, resulting in fires in the buildings. Around the same time, reports were also received regarding an attack on a traffic police checkpoint in Makhachkala. Additionally, another attack occurred in the village of Sergokala, where terrorists fired at a police vehicle, injuring one officer.

A counter-terrorism operation regime has been established in the Republic of Dagestan, and the Investigative Committee has initiated a criminal case under the article of “Terrorism.”
