New Details Revealed in Case of Assault on Artsakh Brothers in Yerevan

An 28-year-old man has been criminally charged for causing serious bodily harm to two brothers using a baseball bat on Komitas Avenue in Yerevan. The information was reported by the press service of the Investigative Committee of Armenia.

Earlier, lawyer Roman Yeritsyan had written that on June 21, two Artsakh residents, aged 65 and 51, were brutally assaulted in front of the SAS supermarket while waiting for a taxi, after allegedly stopping in the middle of the road and not yielding the way. The men are currently in the intensive care unit of Heratsi Hospital with skull fractures. The lawyer also accused investigators of inaction.

On June 21, 2024, a citizen reported that between 11:15 AM and 11:20 AM, an unknown individual had a quarrel with him and his brother in front of the SAS supermarket on Komitas Avenue, during which the assailant struck them with a bat, leaving one brother unconscious.

In response, the spokesperson for the Investigative Committee, Gor Abrahamyan, stated that allegations of inaction by investigators have no basis in reality and are highly manipulative. He indicated that the brothers were recognized as victims, with one of them being interrogated on the same day at the medical facility; no investigative actions could be conducted with the other due to his health condition.

As a result of operational and investigative measures, it was determined that the assault was carried out by a 28-year-old resident of Yerevan. The Investigative Committee reports that a conversation between the two brothers and the 28-year-old escalated into an argument near the supermarket. During this altercation, the assailant punched one of the brothers, and then grabbed a wooden bat from the trunk of a nearby parked vehicle, delivering several blows to the brothers' bodies, including their heads, causing serious bodily injuries.

The 28-year-old man has been publicly charged under the second part of Article 166 (Causing Severe Harm to Health) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. A decision has been made to arrest him for the purpose of bringing him to court to discuss the possibility of pre-trial detention.
