Death Toll Rises After Terror Attacks in Dagestan
The death toll from terror attacks in Dagestan has reached 20. Preliminary reports indicate that among the casualties are 15 security personnel. A priest, a church guard, and three unidentified individuals have also been killed.
The National Anti-Terrorism Committee announced the conclusion of anti-terror operations in Makhachkala and Derbent. The committee confirmed that all attackers have been eliminated.
“As a result of eliminating threats to the lives and health of citizens, as of 08:15, the legal regime of the anti-terrorist operation has been lifted in the administrative boundaries of Makhachkala and Derbent in the Republic of Dagestan,” the agency said in a press release.
Last night, on June 23, a series of attacks occurred targeting a synagogue and a church in Derbent, as well as a church, synagogue, and traffic police department in Makhachkala. As a result, more than 15 police officers and several civilians lost their lives. Six militants were also killed, three of whom are the sons and nephew of Magomed Omarov, the head of the Sergokalin District. The motives behind the attacks remain unclear.
