Kryvyi Rih Covered in Toxic Smoke: What is Known

Kryvyi Rih is engulfed in heavy smoke coming from the ArcelorMittal coke-chemical plant. The city has been covered by a cloud of toxic smoke, worsening air quality.

ArcelorMittal has explained that there has been an emergency disconnection of production capacities. "Around 5 AM today, there was a sudden disconnection of several production capacities from the external energy system. Employees had to implement a series of crisis technological actions to maintain production equipment, particularly for the safety of those working with coke-chemical production equipment," the company's statement said.

The company added that energy supply has been restored, and the situation is under control.
