US to Ban Use of Kaspersky Lab Software Starting September 29
The US Department of Commerce has announced that American citizens will be prohibited from engaging in any transactions with the Russian company Kaspersky Lab starting July 20. A complete ban on using the company's services will come into effect on September 29. It has been noted that the company's software poses risks to US national security.
Kaspersky Lab responded, explaining that following the US authorities' decision, they will only be able to sell and promote Threat Intelligence services and cybersecurity courses within the United States. The company states that it has offered to have its products tested by an independent third party in the United States.
“The US Department of Commerce has made its decision, likely based on the current geopolitical situation and theoretical concerns, rather than a technical assessment of the products. The company intends to utilize available legal remedies to maintain ongoing operations and relationships with partners and customers,” the company said in its statement.
