France Promises Support to Lebanon at Israel Border

France will support the Lebanese armed forces as part of a security mission, should Beirut decide to deploy them at the border with Israel, reports Breaking Defense, citing an anonymous French official.

“We must be prepared to assist in the reinforcement of the Lebanese armed forces in southern Lebanon to help ensure the security of the Lebanese people and the sovereignty of the Lebanese state,” the publication quotes the official's words.

The official noted that France is discussing various initiatives to aid Lebanon. The official emphasized that Beirut and other capitals are considering possible ways to ensure security in the southern part of the country.

However, the publication mentions that the official made the statement before the escalation of tensions between Israel and Lebanon.
