Fires Rage in Turkey: Fatalities and Injuries Reported
Fires broke out yesterday between the Diyarbakir and Mardin regions of Turkey, which have been brought under control thanks to the efforts of the AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Authority), emergency response teams, gendarmerie units, and local citizens, according to Turkish media.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya shared the information about the fire in a post on social media. He reported that 3 citizens from Diyarbakir and 2 from Mardin have lost their lives due to the fire. “The fire that broke out at 22:15 in the Koyksalan village of the Cinar district in Diyarbakir was spread by the wind, affecting the Yazıcı, Bağrıks and Ağaçsever neighborhoods, and continued towards the Yucebag, Senyuvwa, and Etkinler neighborhoods. It also moved towards the Yucebag, Senyuvwa, and Etkinler neighborhoods in the Mazidagi district of Mardin. However, thanks to the diligent work of our teams and citizens, it has been completely brought under control. Unfortunately, 3 of our citizens in Diyarbakir and 2 in Mardin have died as a result of the fire, and the treatment of the injured is ongoing,” the interior minister stated.
Health Minister Fahrettin Koca also announced that 5 people have died as a result of the fire, and 44 others have been injured, with 10 of them in serious condition.
