Tragic Car Accident in Gegharkunik Province: BMW Collides with SHACMAN Truck

A major and tragic car accident occurred in Gegharkunik province yesterday, June 19. Around 3:00 PM, on the Sevan-Martuni-Geghamasar highway, at the 38 km mark within the administrative area of Noratus village, a collision took place between a BMW and a SHACMAN truck.

According to photographer Gagik Shamshyan, who reported from the scene, one person died instantly as a result of the crash. Emergency services from the Ministry of Internal Affairs promptly arrived from the 31st fire-rescue unit in Gavar. The rescuers used special equipment to retrieve the deceased's body from the BMW.

Authorities from the Gavar division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs also arrived at the scene, including the patrol service's commander Albert Martirosyan, deputy commander Igor Ghazaryan, and senior inspectors Bakur Saribekyan and Hratchya Gevorgyan.

The head of the Gegharkunik regional police, Arthur Zohrapyan, and the head of the Gavar police department, Robert Petrosyan, were also present. Information regarding the accident was passed to the Gegharkunik regional investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia, where a team was dispatched under the leadership of the head of the department, the head of the Gavar investigation division, and the on-duty investigator.

A criminal case has been initiated regarding the accident within the Gavar investigative division, where they are looking into the identities of the drivers and the deceased. According to Shamshyan's reports, the driver of the BMW was a soldier who lost his life, and it is possible that the criminal case initiated in Gavar will be transferred to the Military Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia, or an investigative team from that department may arrive at the scene.

The police and the investigative division are working to ascertain the identities of the drivers and the deceased. Preliminary information indicates that the BMW veered into the opposite lane and collided with the trailer section of the truck.
