Street Musicians Removed from City Center
The "Zhoghovurd" newspaper reports that the Yerevan City Council will discuss a draft decision to restrict cultural activities in certain areas of the city at its upcoming meeting. This is the only item on the agenda for the council's session scheduled for June 25, while the remaining 17 issues will not be discussed.
According to the draft, the cultural activities of street musicians will be banned in certain areas of Yerevan, effectively removing them from the city center. The newspaper learned from the project published on the municipality's website that the cultural activities of street musicians will be prohibited in the following areas of Yerevan: the Republic Square and within a 100-meter radius around it, the area enclosed by Mashtots and Sayat Nova Streets, as well as Teryan and Tumanyan Streets, and the Northern Avenue along with a 100-meter radius around it.
In a conversation with us, Armen Galjyan, the head of the ruling party faction in the city council, stated that the draft will be discussed in committee soon and may undergo certain changes before being included in the council's agenda. "There may be suggestions, and accordingly, certain changes may occur, but overall, our position is that the issue should be resolved," he said.
