The Armenian Government Given 4 Months Time
Today, on June 20, at the Ani Plaza Hotel in Yerevan, the platform of democratic civil and political forces held a forum dedicated to the referendum on Armenia's accession to the European Union. Representatives from democratic extra-parliamentary political parties, NGOs, activists, and other leaders and representatives of civil society in Armenia attended the event. Representatives of foreign diplomatic corps in Armenia were also present at the conference.
Below is the statement on the forum, released by the news service of the "Free Citizen" initiative support center. The participants emphasized the necessity of Armenia joining the family of European nations, as this would ensure a higher level of security and prosperity for the Armenian people and improve human and political rights in Armenia.
Participants also discussed the serious efforts required from both the Armenian government and civil society, businesses, and individual citizens to meet and maintain European standards in several key areas, including security, governance, economy, taxation, women's and minority rights. Following the discussions, the participants signed a resolution calling on the Armenian government to hold a referendum on Armenia's accession to the European Union within four months from the date of the conference.
