French Prime Minister Announces Possible Halt of Support to Ukraine

French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal has announced that the victory of right-wing forces in the country’s elections could lead to a significant halt in Paris's support for Kyiv. The politician's remarks were quoted by BFMTV.

According to Attal, a victory for right-wing forces could result in “very serious changes,” including the “suspension of a significant portion of support for Ukraine.” He also mentioned the “risk of succumbing to Russia.” The Prime Minister added that the success of right-wing forces would mark the beginning of a “Frexit,” or France's exit from the European Union.

Early parliamentary elections in France will be held in two rounds on June 30 and July 7 of this year. According to recent polls, Marine Le Pen’s and Jordan Bardella’s “National Rally” is leading with 31.36 percent.

Just the day before, the President of the right-wing “National Rally” party, Jordan Bardella, had expressed opposition to the dispatch of French forces to Ukraine. He stated that the majority of French citizens agree with him on this issue. Referring to Russia, he emphasized that a scenario where the country becomes directly involved in a conflict with a nuclear power is “unacceptable.”
