Putin Announces New Fundamental Document on Bilateral Relations with Kim Jong Un
Russia and North Korea have prepared a new fundamental document that will serve as the basis for the relations between the two countries for many years to come. This was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin in Pyongyang at the start of negotiations with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, as reported by RBC.
“As a result of your visit to Russia last year, we made significant progress in building our interstate relations. Today, a new fundamental document has been prepared that will serve as the foundation for our relations in the long term,” said Putin.
He referred to the achievements of previous generations as the basis for the development of relations between the two countries. Putin spoke about the Soviet soldiers who fought alongside Koreans in 1945 for the liberation from Japan.
Kim Jong Un, for his part, noted that the relationship between Pyongyang and Moscow is entering a “new period of high prosperity.” He emphasized Russia's role in maintaining strategic stability and balance in the world and expressed support for Moscow in the context of the Ukraine conflict.
“The situation in the world is becoming more complicated and changing rapidly. In such a situation, we intend to further strengthen our strategic communication with Russia,” said the North Korean leader.
It should be noted that Putin arrived in North Korea the day before. This is his first visit to the country since 2000 when it was led by the current leader's father, Kim Jong Il. The last time Kim Jong Un visited Russia was in September of last year.
