‘Arming Armenia is Unacceptable’: Hajiyev
“The sale of armaments to Armenia by France is a blow to the process of normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia,” said Hikmet Hajiyev, head of the foreign relations department of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan, according to APA agency, today in Baku.
“The French policy of arming will encourage revanchist forces operating in Armenia. The supply of lethal weapons to Armenia causes serious concerns. As a member of the UN Security Council, France should pursue a responsible policy,” Hajiyev stated, adding, “Armenia is the country that has carried out aggression and occupation in the South Caucasus. Arming such a state is unacceptable.”
Armenia and France announced yesterday that they have signed a contract for the acquisition of ‘Caesar’ artillery systems. Baku condemned this deal, stating that “the full responsibility for creating a new hotbed of war in the South Caucasus will rest with the leadership of Armenia and Macron’s dictatorship.”
The Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also responded, stating that having a combat-ready and modern armed force is the sovereign right of any country.
