I Do Not Intend to Resign My Mandate: Seyran Ohanyan
ARJ "Hayastan" faction leader Seyran Ohanyan has stated that he does not intend to resign his parliamentary mandate. In an interview with Irakanum.am, Ohanyan responded to our question about whether he has considered resigning his mandate following the recent events in the National Assembly.
When asked if he had wanted to resign but faced opposition from his fellow faction members, Ohanyan said, "There is no such thing. I may have asked Alen (referring to the National Assembly President Alen Simonian) a couple of times, as he suggested that mandates should be resigned, let him go ahead and resign, and I will do the same at that moment."
In response to suggestions from others to step down in light of his military title and career following the latest incident in the parliament, he remarked, "Well, just like everyone else, I also receive such requests. It’s not that this mandate is an end in itself for me, because the people gave this mandate during the 2021 elections to enable us to work and fight for the homeland and against this government. You know that a criminal case has been initiated to deprive us of immunity; resigning mandates is not an end in itself—we have discussed this many times," stated Seyran Ohanyan.
He noted that the National Assembly is a workplace, and there will be clashes, adding that he never likes to talk about himself. Simultaneously, Ohanyan expressed his opinion that the recent incidents indicate that the ruling Civil Contract party also realizes that their ratings are declining and something is happening. "We lost Artsakh, and people are subjected to brutal force in the streets; what happens to my person is minor. Of course, I draw conclusions, but I don’t get depressed," Ohanyan said, also adding that he does not intend to resign his parliamentary mandate. "I do not have such a goal," he concluded.
