Fare Increase for Transport Delayed: Another Miscalculation by Authorities

The newspaper 'Zhoghovurd' reports: 'Yesterday, the authorities of the Republic of Armenia announced another failure: during the operational meeting of Yerevan's city hall, it was declared that the timeline for the implementation of a unified ticketing system—with the associated fare increase—would be extended. The unified ticketing system was supposed to be launched on September 1, but it was announced yesterday that the implementation would be delayed until the new buses arrive and enter service.

Moreover, no specific timelines were provided for the delay; only Deputy Mayor Suren Grigoryan mentioned that the import of the new buses is scheduled for late October or early November. This means we can note that the authorities have once again failed due to erroneous calculations regarding a project that they had announced with great fanfare and noise, which had also sparked significant discontent among the public.

According to information from 'Zhoghovurd,' within the ruling party, they hold Deputy Mayor Suren Grigoryan responsible for this failure, as he was responsible for the coordination of this project, which has not succeeded. The fact is that apart from having rapid and incomprehensible conversations with citizens, Suren Grigoryan has not made any other notable moves regarding transport issues.'
