Announcement Regarding the Spread of Grasshoppers in Certain Areas of Gegharkunik Province

The Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia has issued a statement: “In response to the videos circulating in the media regarding the spread of grasshoppers in certain parts of Gegharkunik Province, we inform you that specialists from the Ministry of Economy are well aware of the issue. A technical working group has already been dispatched to Gegharkunik Province to assess the extent of grasshopper infestation in agricultural lands and to carry out ongoing monitoring activities.

In addition, the Ministry has provided pest control agents free of charge to the province for the fight against grasshoppers. Comprehensive chemical measures against grasshoppers are planned; therefore, it is recommended to relocate beehives at least 3-5 kilometers away from the affected areas and to avoid gathering mushrooms, plants, and berries as well as grazing agricultural animals in adjacent pastures for the next 20 days.
