Human Rights Defender Engages in Phone Conversation with Wife of Seriously Injured Yesayi Karamiann
The Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan held a phone conversation today with Naira Sahakyan, the wife of Yesayi Karamiann, who sustained serious injuries to his hand and other parts of his body during a protest in Yerevan on June 12. This was reported by the Office of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia.
Considering the ethical aspects of the matter, the content of the phone conversation remains confidential. The rights related to freedom of assembly and issues concerning injured individuals are under the direct supervision of the Human Rights Defender.
The staff of the Human Rights Defender regularly receives updates on the health status of injured persons, including Yesayi Karamiann. The legality of the special measures employed by police (sound grenades) is being examined within the framework of a discussion initiated by the Defender's directive.
Based on the findings of this study, the Human Rights Defender will present her stance on the issue. It is noteworthy that Yesayi Karamiann's wife had previously made a Facebook post detailing her husband's injuries and also stated that they had not been contacted by the Human Rights Defender's office. She further expressed that 'the current Human Rights Defender is, in fact, a defender of Nikol's rights.'
