Belarusian Foreign Ministry: We Wish the Armenian People Leaders Who Truly Care About the Future of the Country

Belarus is not planning to worsen its relations with Armenia. This was stated by the press secretary of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, Anatoly Glaz, while speaking to journalists, as reported by BelTA.

“It is important to understand that we have longstanding close, friendly relations with Armenia and a shared history, and today there is mutually beneficial trade as well as close business ties. We do not intend to deteriorate these relations, no matter how much external players push the leadership of Armenia in this direction. We have never done anything to harm our friends; we do not interfere in internal affairs, we respect the Armenian people, and sincerely wish for leaders who truly think about the future of the country and the welfare of the people,” emphasized Anatoly Glaz.

Earlier, it was reported that Belarus is recalling its ambassador to Armenia, Alexander Konyukin, for consultations. The Armenian ambassador to Belarus, Razmik Khumaryan, has also been summoned to Yerevan for consultations.

“We all see how complicated the internal political situation is in Armenia and how quickly the confrontation within the country is escalating. Different people, of course, have different resilience to serious emotional stress. We understand that, but we do not understand what Belarus has to do with it,” noted the press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He pointed out that a representative from the Armenian embassy was invited to the Foreign Ministry for clarification purposes. He stressed that if someone in Armenia has decided to deflect attention from internal issues through the image of an external enemy, that is a very shortsighted position.

It is worth mentioning that today, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced in the National Assembly that he and any official representative of Armenia will no longer visit Belarus as long as President Alexander Lukashenko is in office. “One of the CSTO leaders stated that he participated in preparing for the 44-day war, encouraged it, and wanted Azerbaijan's victory. How can I then go and sit with the President of Belarus in the CSTO format to discuss issues, when you talk about dignity and principles? Although there is also a situation in the EAEU and CIS, I will somehow have to, but I also want to state that I will never visit Belarus, and no official representative of Armenia will visit Belarus,” said Pashinyan.
