Modi May Discuss Ukraine Conflict at G7 Summit
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi may discuss the topic of the Ukraine conflict during the G7 summit, despite the fact that this issue will not be addressed in the section of the summit that he will attend. This was announced by Vinay Kwatra, India's Secretary of State for External Affairs, during a special press briefing on Wednesday.
Earlier, he had stated that Modi would participate in the G7 summit and take part in an informational session, where the focus would be on artificial intelligence, energy, Africa, and the Mediterranean.
“As I mentioned in my opening remarks at this summit, even though the G7 will focus on blocks of the agenda from its own discussion perspective, discussions in the informational segment of the summit will center on artificial intelligence, energy, and the Mediterranean Sea. I believe we should focus on what is happening,” he said.
Other agenda items are limited to discussions between the G7 countries and do not pertain to the informational summit,” Kwatra stated.
At the same time, he noted that “it is entirely natural that during bilateral discussions, conversations, and meetings held by the Prime Minister of India, we should expect that current events of significant global importance will be discussed.”
“Naturally, the Russia-Ukraine conflict is one of them,” the diplomat added. In response to a question about the possibility of a meeting between Modi and Zelensky during the summit, Kwatra noted that the schedule for the Prime Minister of India's bilateral meetings is still being coordinated.
