Biden Comments on Son's Verdict
US President Joe Biden has stated that he accepts the verdict against his son, Hunter Biden, for illegal possession of a firearm and will continue to respect the legal process. This was reported by The Washington Post.
“As I said last week, I will accept the outcome of this case and continue to respect the legal process, as long as Hunter explores the possibility of an appeal,” the President added, having previously stated that he would not grant his son a pardon.
Biden further noted that he is “the president, but also a father,” emphasizing that he and First Lady Jill Biden love their son and are very proud of who he has become today. “Many families with loved ones fighting addiction understand the feeling of pride when seeing someone you love becoming so strong and resilient in recovery,” the US President remarked.
Hunter Biden's attorneys have already announced that they are prepared to appeal the verdict. Recently, Hunter Biden was found guilty by a jury on all three counts of charges related to violations of gun possession laws. Hunter Biden faces up to 25 years in prison and a maximum fine of $750,000.
The 54-year-old son of the US President is accused of illegal possession of a Colt Cobra 38 Special pistol acquired in October 2018, as well as providing false information to the gun dealer and registering authorities. According to the investigation's theory, while filling out necessary documents to acquire the firearm, he stated that he was not using drugs, despite having been an addict until 2019.
