After Joint Military Exercises, We Expect More: James O'Brien

I am very pleased to see such a representative delegation on both sides. This demonstrates the broad agenda we are working on. It shows the rapidly developing cooperation between Armenia and the United States. I am here to reaffirm our strong support in various directions within the context of these bilateral relations,” said James O’Brien, the U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, at the opening of the final session of the Armenian-U.S. Strategic Dialogue.

According to him, the people of Armenia have repeatedly reaffirmed their desire for reforms in recent years, and the U.S. is proud to support efforts for democracy. “We know that for Armenia, security, prosperity, and democracy exist side by side and that these three working groups are engaged within the framework of our strategic dialogue,” said James O’Brien.

He mentioned that apart from those directions, the United States also supports efforts to establish lasting peace in the region and expand economic opportunities, from Central Asia to the Mediterranean Sea. “If there is lasting peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, those opportunities will increase, and we are happy to support the efforts in that area,” he said.

The U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State noted that in addition to support in the field of justice, they will continue to work bilaterally on defense and security issues. “Last year, the first joint exercise, 'Eagle Partner,' took place, and we are expecting more. We also expect to work in the fields of cybersecurity, border security, food, and energy security,” said O’Brien.
