The Reason Behind the Stabbing Incident on Mashtots Avenue is Long Staring at Each Other

In the framework of the criminal proceedings being investigated by the Center and Norq-Marash administrative districts' investigative department of the Yerevan city investigative committee, several circumstances of the stabbing incident involving two individuals on Mashtots Avenue in Yerevan on June 8 have been clarified.

On June 8, at 01:59 and subsequently at 03:02, reports were received from the ‘Heratsi Number 1 Hospital Complex’ about two young men being transported from the ‘Malibu’ park on Mashtots Avenue with various degrees of bodily injuries, one of whom was in serious condition while the other was stable.

A criminal case has been initiated in connection with the incident, which revealed that around 01:24 on June 8, 2024, a dispute arose among three young men near the ‘Sizns’ restaurant on Mashtots Avenue due to long staring at each other. During this confrontation, two residents from Yerevan, aged 20, grossly violated public order, exchanged insults, and inflicted mutual blows, including using knives that were nearby.

One of them, with the intent to unlawfully deprive his peer of life, inflicted multiple blows on the vital organs of the other using a sharp cutting and stabbing instrument, causing severe bodily injuries that posed a danger to life. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the crime was not completed as the actions were interrupted by citizens who intervened in the scuffle, as well as medical intervention after being transported to a medical facility.

Based on sufficient evidence gathered, the prosecuting authority submitted a motion to the supervising prosecutor to initiate public criminal proceedings against the 20-year-old, which was approved, and charges were brought against him under part 1 of Article 44-155 of the RA Criminal Code. A request has been made to the court for his detention as a measure of restraint.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and necessary measures are being taken to clarify the circumstances of the case and to legally assess the actions of other participants in the alleged crime.
