I Give Them a Chance to Repent: Vahagn Aleksanyan
There is a presence of police on Demirchyan Street, and this is justified considering all the hooligan actions carried out by that small group. This was stated by Vahagn Aleksanyan, a lawmaker from the ruling Civil Contract party, after a council meeting in the National Assembly.
“I walk alone on the street, unlike the opposition leaders, including the leader of the Movement; I don’t have bodyguards, I walk alone. As for the buildings under state protection, they are being secured accordingly. Regarding fears, go ask that person—they are the ones walking with bodyguards,” he said.
When asked when he last walked alone, he responded, “On Saturday, at the wine festival; I walk alone every day as well.”
As for what citizens tell him, he replied, “Different things; these days, most often they ask when we will gather those people from the streets, and we explain that citizens have their rights.”
To the question of whether any of his relatives participate in the protests, since the opposition claims that many relatives of Civil Contract members are participating in the demonstrations, he stated, “If among those 400 people in the street are relatives of the Civil Contract party, then is there not an opposition figure in this country? If it turns out that those present are our relatives, I apologize again; it’s not serious. They said 4-5 lawmakers from the Civil Contract party joined them; where are those lawmakers, or were they just giving away food?”
The lawmaker announced that he considered the movement to be nationwide and that its culmination should have been the draft announcement, stating that they could not even gather 36 signatures to start the impeachment process. “So why aren’t they starting the impeachment? If the ball is in our court, let them not rely on us. I am giving them a chance to repent; let them go light a candle and repent, and I am giving them that chance. They do not have 36 signatures; if they are sending a message, that message has been sent a million times,” he emphasized.
