Bear Kills 71-Year-Old Woman in Her Home in the U.S.
A bear in California has killed a 71-year-old woman in her own home, reports the Los Angeles Times, citing RIA Novosti.
The remains of Patrice Miller, 71, from Downieville, were discovered back in November. Initially, investigators believed the animal had found a woman without signs of life and had consumed her. However, a conclusion from an autopsy completed last month revealed that the woman was killed by the bear, which had either grabbed or bitten her neck.
'Black bears are not dangerous animals, but if they perceive homes as an easy food source, they lose their natural fear of humans and start to behave more boldly. This incident is the most brutal in U.S. history,' said Peter Tiran, a representative of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, according to the source.
Miller has become the first person to die as a result of a bear attack in California. This is notable given that black bears rarely attack humans, and aggressive grizzly bears have not been present in the area for over a century.
