Zelensky Compares Kyiv's Struggle to World War II
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has drawn parallels between World War II and his country’s fight against Russia in a message delivered to French lawmakers in Paris on Friday.
“Hitler crossed red lines repeatedly; Putin is doing the same,” he stated, adding that Ukrainians are the heirs of the Allied fighters of World War II.
His speech was met with enthusiasm by the National Assembly of France, with lawmakers erupting into spontaneous applause. In 2022, during the early months of Putin's invasion of Ukraine, Zelensky addressed the French National Assembly via video message.
“France, I thank you for standing alongside us to save lives,” he said in French.
Earlier, Macron announced that Paris and Kyiv would sign an agreement for France to provide Ukraine with Mirage 2000-5 fighter jets.
