Zakharova on the EU Observer Mission in Armenia

Moscow has a negative stance regarding the presence of the EU observer mission in Armenia and has repeatedly pointed out its confrontational nature. This was stated by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, during a press briefing.

According to her, this is essentially a semi-military presence in Armenian territory. Referring to the recent statement by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin, which suggested that EU observers in Armenia are engaged in espionage, Zakharova emphasized that no evidence is needed to understand the "anti-Russian, anti-Azerbaijani, and anti-Iranian goals" of this mission.

“There is no need to look for evidence anywhere; everything is evident. The anti-Russian, anti-Azerbaijani, and anti-Iranian objectives of this mission are becoming increasingly apparent. This is especially true as NATO member countries have started to join in; it has become clear to everyone. Beyond the destabilization of the military-political situation and turning the region into a geopolitical arena, one should not expect anything positive from EU initiatives like this,” Zakharova stated.

She expressed confidence that all issues in the South Caucasus can and must be resolved only through the joint efforts of regional states, without external interference, and taking into account the interests of regional countries.
