A Cold War Has Been Declared Against Azerbaijan: Aliyev's Statement
The relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union can be characterized positively; however, since the "Second Nagorno-Karabakh War" and especially after last year's anti-terrorism operation, certain European countries have begun to "unjustly and dishonestly attack us," stated Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
This statement was made during a meeting in Baku with the Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States, as well as the leaders of the parliaments of Turkey, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Northern Cyprus and the Deputy Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly.
“To tarnish Azerbaijan, to cast a shadow over everything we do, to call white black and black white, to support the occupier and vilify the occupied has become a way of life for some EU member states. This is based not on norms of international law, but on personal, painful ambitions,” Aliyev added. “Unfortunately, some countries aspiring to occupy a special place in Europe have even managed to create an anti-Azerbaijani coalition. Today, at least three EU members have declared a cold war against Azerbaijan. They are known,” said the Azerbaijani president.
However, he did not specify which countries he was referring to. “I have repeatedly told guests from Europe that Azerbaijan has restored its territorial integrity. Territorial integrity recognized by you and the entire world. Territorial integrity that prompted the UN Security Council to adopt four resolutions to end the occupation. However, the UN could do nothing, the EU did not want to do anything, and the OSCE and its Minsk Group effectively became anti-Azerbaijani instruments in the hands of the occupier Armenia,” Aliyev said while addressing the Deputy Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament, adding that “Budapest is not only defending its friend here but also supporting justice.”
