VIDEO: "You Will Not Be Able to Import Sheep Meat from Georgia to Armenia" - Papoyan Explains the Reason

This year, as well as last year, we faced a significant risk of diseases such as bluetongue, anthrax, and others. However, with 2.3 billion drams and through our efforts, we managed to overcome it, unlike Georgia. This was stated by the Minister of Economy, Gevorg Papoyan, during the discussion of the 2023 state budget execution in the National Assembly, in response to a question from Prosperous Armenia faction member Sergey Bagratyan regarding the outcome of the programs aimed at preventing these diseases in the livestock sector, for which 2.3 billion drams had been allocated in 2023.

“Now, if you want to import sheep meat from Georgia to Armenia, you will not be able to do so because that country has an outbreak of bluetongue. However, we can export from our country to Georgia because we have managed to prevent and ensure that such diseases do not exist in our country,” he said.

According to the minister, efforts in this direction will continue in 2024. “I can now assert that we have succeeded in 2024 as well, and we have faced various dangerous epidemic situations in animal husbandry, but I can say that we do not have this situation now. If we put it in artistic terms, it has cost sleepless nights for the ministry and regional administrations because we understood the risk we were navigating, and we resolved that risk,” the minister said.
