Trump Wins Latest Primaries Despite Adult Film Star Case

The latest primaries were the last internal elections of the Republican Party in this electoral cycle. The next important stage will be Donald Trump’s official nomination as a presidential candidate in July.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has won the Republican Party's final primaries despite the indictment stemming from the "Stormy Daniels case," as reported by the Associated Press. The political figure secured a majority of votes in three states: Montana, New Jersey, and New Mexico.

As of June 5, Trump has garnered a total of 2260 delegates' support, which is necessary for his official nomination as the country's presidential candidate. Notably, by mid-March, the political figure had amassed a "magical" number of 50 percent or 1215 delegates, while all serious rivals in the race for the Oval Office (including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former U.S. Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley) have withdrawn from the presidential race.

The Republican primaries were also supposed to take place in South Dakota but were canceled due to the lack of formal competition for Donald Trump.

With this, the Republican Party concludes its internal election process. The next key phase will be the party convention, scheduled to take place from July 15-18 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, during which Trump is expected to be officially nominated as the candidate for President of the United States.

A few days ago, on July 11, a New York court is expected to announce the political figure's judgment in the Trump Organization's financial document falsification case, aimed at concealing payments made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels for silence regarding their intimate relationship.

Last week, a grand jury found Trump guilty on all 34 counts of the indictment, each carrying a potential sentence of up to four years in prison. However, most observers agree that the former president is likely to escape with a fine or probation.

Meanwhile, the conviction and even possible imprisonment will not hinder his participation in the elections, as there are no such restrictions stipulated in the American Constitution.

On June 4, primaries for the Democratic Party also took place in Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, South Dakota, and Washington D.C., where the expected victor was the state's current leader, Joe Biden. The total number of delegates supporting his presidential candidacy thus amounts to 3852. On June 8, Democrats will hold the final phase of their internal elections in Guam and the Virgin Islands. The Democratic National Convention will take place in August.

However, it is already clear at this stage that the names on the ballots for November 5 will be Biden and Trump. As noted by The Economist, for the first time since 1912, a former U.S. president is challenging the sitting president. Moreover, this will be the third presidential campaign for the Republican Party.
