Two of the Eight Damaged Railway Sections from Sanahin to Ayrum Restored
Railway traffic has been restored on two of the eight damaged sections of infrastructure from Sanahin station to Ayrum station. This was reported by the South Caucasian Railway Company.
"Traffic is still limited in speed and type of rolling stock," the statement noted.
Currently, large-scale works are being carried out to clear the collapsed section of the Alaverdi-Haghpat road through the blasting and dismantling of destroyed structures, as well as the construction of access roads for construction machinery. A staircase is being constructed on one of the damaged sections.
It was mentioned that the restoration of a 230-meter long electrical transmission line, as well as 400 meters of communication supports and cables, has been completed at Akhtala station. Dismantling and cleaning of the station's ground equipment from dirt have also been carried out. The cleaning of the external equipment of the station from dirt and the dismantling of damaged automation devices have been completed.
"At the same time, materials and equipment are being supplied from abroad, contracts have been signed, and stone supplies are being sourced from various quarries," the statement added.
Preparatory work is underway at Ayrum station, and materials and equipment are being imported in order to prepare for the acceptance of petroleum products. It is planned that a temporary scheme for the import of goods into Armenia will be organized based on the facilities of Ayrum station.
In total, 265 employees of the South Caucasian Railway Company are involved in the restoration works. More than 30 employees from Russia have been dispatched to the disaster area. Several specialists from the Georgian Railways Company are also expected.
At the same time, the company's maneuvering thermal locomotive continues to transport equipment and personnel to the settlements of Karkop, Chochkan, Large Ayrum, and Small Ayrum, which are cut off from the roads.
