Chinese Probe Takes Off from Moon with Lunar Soil Samples

The Chinese "Chang'e 6" lunar probe has ascended from the far side of the Moon carrying soil samples. This was reported by the China National Space Administration (CNSA).

The probe took off on June 4 at 7:38 AM (Yerevan time: 03:38 AM). About six minutes later, it exited its planned lunar orbit.

"Chang'e 6," which consists of an orbiter, a lander, an ascender, and a return module, was launched to the Moon on May 3. On June 2, its lander and ascender touched down in the area of the South Pole-Aitken basin.

From June 2 to 3, "Chang'e 6" collected soil samples. During this process, researchers on Earth analyzed data from the vehicle's detectors and modeled the geographical layout of the sample collection area on the Moon. CNSA emphasized that using two drilling methods and a robotic measuring arm, the probe was able to gather the best soil samples.

China's previous spacecraft, "Chang'e 5," flew to the Moon in 2020. It placed China's flag on the lunar surface and also collected soil samples.
