French Authorities Announce Willingness to Discuss Recognition of Palestine

French authorities are exploring the possibility of recognizing Palestine's independence and have reportedly made 'significant progress' on the matter. This was reported by the Le Monde newspaper.

The publication cites a statement from Eli Barnavi, a former Israeli ambassador to France, who has attempted to persuade the French administration and President Emmanuel Macron to recognize Palestine as a state, although his efforts have been 'unsuccessful.'

However, the report mentions that French officials have 'moved forward' in discussing the issue, despite Macron's statements that the 'right moment' for such a decision has not yet arrived.

During a phone call on May 29 between Macron and Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas, the French leader urged him to implement 'necessary reforms,' while the presidential office expressed a desire to establish 'positive dynamics' regarding the recognition of Palestine, according to TASS.

Meanwhile, the Danish parliament voted against a proposal to recognize Palestine as a state. Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen stated that currently, the necessary prerequisites for creating an independent state are lacking.

On May 28, Ireland officially recognized Palestine as an independent state. The statement also noted that Dublin sees the necessity for state support from the international community. The country is also committed to striving for peace and supporting the state structures in the region.
