Trump Amasses 23 Million Views on TikTok in 9 Hours After Registration
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has registered on the TikTok social media platform. The politician released a video on his personal page filmed during an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) match in New Jersey.
Trump created a TikTok account to reach a younger audience ahead of the presidential elections in November. President Biden opened a TikTok account in February; on the first day, he gained 67,000 followers, which has now increased to 335,000 followers.
Trump, on his first day, gained 891,000 followers. Despite his Twitter ban, the move reflects Trump’s strategy to connect with the youth demographic as he prepares for the upcoming election.
It's worth noting that during his presidency, Trump criticized TikTok and its owner ByteDance, claiming that the app posed a threat to national security. In the summer of 2020, Trump signed executive orders prohibiting Americans from conducting business with ByteDance, but those orders were blocked by courts.
