SPORT: Real Madrid Wins Champions League Title for the 15th Time, Remaining Undefeated in the 21st Century

In the Champions League final at London's Wembley Stadium, Real Madrid dispatched two unanswered goals past Borussia Dortmund, earning the Champions League trophy for the 15th time in history. For the first time in its history, Real Madrid completed the Champions League tournament without a defeat.

Real Madrid has never lost a Champions League final in the 21st century, claiming victory in all seven finals they have played. In the first half, Dortmund applied significant pressure on the opponent and created several real goal-scoring opportunities against Courtois, but they were unable to find the net.

In the 49th minute, Kroos could have opened the scoring, but his shot was deflected by Kobel at the last moment. After that, both teams posed threats to each other’s goals intermittently for about 20 minutes. However, in the 74th minute, Toni Kroos took a corner kick that found Dani Carvajal, who escaped the defenders and headed the ball into the right corner of Kobel's net to make it 1-0.

In the 83rd minute, Madrid doubled their lead thanks to Vinicius, who received a pass from Bellingham, broke away from Kobel, and with a confident strike scored another goal. The match ended with the score remaining 2-0, and the Champions League trophy heading to Madrid.

This makes the Madrid midfielder the first Brazilian player to score more than one goal in Champions League finals. Carlo Ancelotti spoke about Real Madrid's victory in the Champions League: “You can’t get used to this feeling. It was difficult, very difficult, harder than expected. We played better in the second half, more balanced and lost the ball less. The dream continues. In the first half, we were a little lazy, losing the ball, while the opponent played as they wanted. I’m a bit sad about Kroos’s departure, but he wanted to leave this way. He decided to end his career, and we must respect that,” stated the Real Madrid head coach on Movistar.

It’s worth noting that this match was the last at the club level for both Toni Kroos and Dortmund player Marco Reus, who only came on in the 72nd minute. Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Dani Carvajal, and Nacho have now won this competition for the sixth time, tying with record-holder Paco Gento for the most Champions League titles.

Real Madrid will compete against Atalanta, the UEFA Europa League champions, for the UEFA Super Cup. The match will take place on August 14 at the National Stadium in Warsaw.
