At Least 56 People Have Died in India Due to Abnormal Heat Since March

In India, at least 56 people have died in the past three months due to abnormal heat, with the highest number of fatalities—14—recorded in May in the central state of Madhya Pradesh. In the western state of Maharashtra, 11 people have lost their lives, along with 33 other workers. There are also reports of heat-related fatalities from Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan, as noted by The Hindustan Times.

Since March 1, hospitals have admitted 24,800 people showing signs of sunstroke, with 19,200 of those cases occurring in May. In Delhi, temperatures have soared to 52.3 degrees Celsius. Authorities have promised to compensate the families of the deceased, according to Al Jazeera.
