Why Scholz is Not Supplying Kyiv with Taurus Cruise Missiles: Response from Germany

The head of the Bundestag's Defense Committee, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, believes that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is reluctant to supply Kyiv with Taurus cruise missiles due to fear of losing authority. She stated that this would require him to face pressure again, similar to the earlier situation when he provided Leopard tanks to Ukraine. This information was reported by TASS.

“The Chancellor conceded during the supply of tanks. I fear that he perceived this as a loss of authority,” explained the parliamentarian in an interview with the Funke media group. “For this reason, he has firmly insisted on his position regarding the supply of Taurus, so he is not seen as someone who will give in to pressure once again,” she stated.

Strack-Zimmermann expressed hope that Scholz will recognize the dramatic nature of the situation and will reconsider his stance. The Chancellor has previously rejected the possibility of transferring Taurus missiles to Kyiv, stating that efficient use of such missiles would require the participation of German troops, a line he does not wish to cross.
