Ashot Harutyunyan Subjected to Violence by Police
The "New Project: Economic Channel" initiative strongly condemns the disproportionate use of force by police officers against its member, former Deputy Minister of Agriculture Ashot Harutyunyan, and approximately thirty participants of the "Tavush for the Homeland" movement.
Ashot Harutyunyan was first subjected to violence by the police and was arrested hours after the six-hour mark had passed. It is clear that the decision to arrest Ashot Harutyunyan is unlawful and beyond the scope of criminal procedural legislation.
At the same time, we call on international partners and human rights organizations to denounce the illegal and unfounded arrest of Ashot Harutyunyan, which directly infringes upon the fundamental principles of human rights and freedoms.
Ultimately, we urge advocates of democracy in international organizations to issue a statement condemning the manifestations of lawlessness that are deepening daily in Armenia, the "bastion of democracy."
