Visible Erosions Along the Roadside: Sanosyan on the Disaster Zone

Significant cleaning and restoration work has already been carried out in Karkhop, the most affected settlement from the floods, and the only one from which residents were completely evacuated. This was stated by the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, Gnel Sanosyan, during a briefing in Alaverdi.

“We will need both professional and financial assistance because aside from recovery efforts, it is assumed that in these areas, certain preferential programs should be implemented to encourage business and agriculture. This means not only addressing current needs but also support programs to help people get back on their feet and resume their economic activities,” said Sanosyan, referring to the visit of over 40 representatives from diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited in Armenia.

The minister also urged citizens to be vigilant regarding any fallen animals and to inform responsible authorities to avoid potential epidemic situations.

Some settling and erosions along the roadside are already visible, with collapses that, for instance, were not present three days ago; the water has taken its toll. The minister advised residents to stay alert.

It is worth recalling that following the heavy rains on May 26, four people died due to the flooding of the Debed, Agstev, and Tashir rivers in the Lori and Tavush regions.

A decision has been made to declare the affected areas in the Lori and Tavush regions a disaster zone and allocate 300 million AMD to local administrations to address the aftermath of the floods.
