VIDEO: Another mayoral candidate killed in Mexico; 22 candidates for ruling positions murdered

Another mayoral candidate has been killed in Mexico during a meeting with voters. Since the start of the electoral campaign in September 2023, 22 candidates standing for ruling positions have been murdered.

According to Mexican media reports, the candidate for mayor of Cuoyuca de Benitez was shot in the back during the meeting with voters. The assailant was neutralized by security forces.

On social networks, the PRI party, from which the late candidate Alfredo Cabrera was running, accused the government of not doing anything to ensure the safety of the meeting.

Hours after the news of Cabrera’s death, the candidate for deputy mayor of Cuautla was also killed, and the candidate for mayor of Encarnación de Díaz was injured in a subsequent attack. The federal government has reported that since the start of the electoral campaign in September, 22 candidates have been killed.
