Slovenia Recognizes Palestine's Independence
The Slovenian government has decided to recognize the independence and sovereignty of Palestine, as announced by the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The decision will be presented for discussion in the National Assembly of Slovenia. Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon stated in the announcement, "Recognition of Palestine is the only means for the peaceful coexistence of two states and peoples. The number of allies among European countries is increasing, and this is a clear sign that the European Union is taking on a more active role in resolving the conflict."
Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob added that the government has decided to recognize Palestine "within the framework of UN resolutions or within the borders that will be agreed upon in a future peace agreement between the parties." He noted that the decision to recognize Palestine sends a message that Slovenia wishes to immediately halt military operations and release the Israeli hostages.
