China Threatens Taiwan with War
The separation of Taiwan from mainland China would signal military conflict in the Taiwan Strait. This was stated by the official representative of the Ministry of Defense, Wu Qian, commenting on the assumption of office by Taiwan's leader, Lai Ching-te, according to Gazeta.ru.
“Taiwan’s independence is equivalent to war, and its division means a lack of peace,” said Wu Qian.
On May 28, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the United States should not interfere in maritime disputes between China and its neighbors. A day earlier, Irish journalist Chey Bows had stated that by arming Taiwan with billions of dollars, the US and the EU were pushing it to repeat Ukraine’s fate.
On the same day, Lai Ching-te declared that Taiwan would further strengthen its defenses and follow the idea of former US President Ronald Reagan: “peace through strength.”
The chairman of the US House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee, Michael McCaul, announced at a press conference following his meeting with Lai Ching-te in Taipei that Washington will supply Taiwan with advanced weaponry rather than old armaments like those sent to Ukraine.
