VIDEO: Unique Fifth-Generation Aircraft Crashes During Flight in the US
A modified fifth-generation F-35 Lightning II fighter jet crashed near Albuquerque, New Mexico. CBS News reports that the American aircraft went down during takeoff from Albuquerque International Airport.
The Pentagon has confirmed that the F-35 was supposed to fly to a military airbase in Southern California. The pilot successfully ejected from the aircraft and survived, though he was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The jet was engulfed in flames following the crash.
