VIDEO: North Korea Sends 150 Balloons Filled with Trash and Manure to South Korea
North Korea has sent over 150 balloons filled with trash across the border into South Korea. This was reported by the Yonhap agency, citing the Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Korea.
According to South Korean military officials, the balloons began crossing the border on the evening of May 28 and landed in various parts of the country, reaching the southeastern province of South Gyeongsang. Inside the balloons were various waste materials, including plastic bottles, batteries, shoe parts, and even manure.
"We strongly warn North Korea to immediately cease its inhumane and vulgar actions," stated the Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Korea.
On May 26, North Korea’s Deputy Minister of Defense Kim Gan Il announced that there had been sightings of propaganda materials distributed by South Korea within the republic. "Waste paper and trash will soon be spread in areas near the borders of the Republic of Korea and deep within, so the country can feel how much work is required to clean them up," he noted.
Yonhap mentions that for years, individuals who fled from North Korea to South Korea have sent balloons filled with leaflets criticizing Kim Jong Un back into the DPRK. On May 28, Seoul speculated that propaganda leaflets might be inside the balloons launched from the DPRK. However, it later became clear that they contained trash.
