Scholz and Macron Issue Joint Call
French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz have called for an end to Israeli operations in Rafah. The situation in Rafah is horrifying. This was stated by French President Emmanuel Macron during a press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, as reported by Bild newspaper.
“Israeli operations in Rafah must cease,” he emphasized. The French President noted that France originally condemned Hamas's attack on Israel and defended Israel's right to self-defense. “However, like any democracy, this must happen in accordance with international law,” said the French leader.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, for his part, stated, “Israel must respect international law in its actions.” Scholz described the Israeli shelling of a refugee camp in Rafah as a “tragic incident” that resulted in numerous casualties. “This incident again shows why Germany, along with many other countries, has repeatedly opposed a large-scale ground offensive in Rafah, as there cannot be adequate protection for civilians,” said Scholz.
