QP Responds to Aliyev's Demand to Recognize Khojaly Genocide
“This topic is certainly not open for discussion.” This statement was made by Arthur Hovhannisyan, the secretary of the ruling Civil Contract faction, during a broadcast on Azatutyun, in response to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's declaration yesterday that “Armenia must recognize the Khojaly genocide and apologize.”
“Of course, we have some improvements in the atmosphere regarding the delimitation and demarcation commission and in the discussions around the peace treaty, but Azerbaijan continues to be unconstructive, and ultimatums are also being pronounced,” Hovhannisyan noted, emphasizing, “Therefore, we should not overestimate the situation, nor should we underestimate it to the point of despair. We have successes and achievements; as a result of delimitation in Tavush, we have taken away Azerbaijan's last legitimate opportunity and pretext for attacking Armenia.”
