Papuasvili Intends to Sign 'Foreign Agents' Law Instead of President

The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuasvili, does not expect President Salome Zourabichvili to sign the 'Transparency of Foreign Influence' law, which the legislative body adopted on May 28, overcoming the president's veto. Papuasvili announced at a press conference that he would sign the document himself.

"The 'Transparency of Foreign Influence' law was sent to the president's administration yesterday. It is clear that she (Zourabichvili) is highly unlikely to sign it. Therefore, I will sign this law," said the parliamentary speaker.

According to procedure, after overcoming the veto, the law is sent back to the president for signing within three days. If the head of state does not sign it within five days, the speaker of the parliament will sign and publish the law, after which it enters into force.
