Mother See Calls on Police to Respect Citizens' Fundamental Rights

The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin has condemned the violence used by police against protesters. This was reported by the press service of the Armenian Apostolic Church. The Supreme Spiritual Council held a meeting chaired by His Holiness Catholicos Karekin II, where it was announced that due to the worsening crisis in the country, police have been using evidently disproportionate force against citizens expressing their peaceful protest, which is characterized as a "condemnable manifestation of violence."

The Mother See emphasized that such actions exacerbate social tensions and could lead to unpredictable consequences. The Supreme Spiritual Council called on the police to respect citizens' fundamental rights while performing their duties and to act solely in accordance with principles of humanity and legality.

At the same time, the Council urged participants in public actions to express their protest exclusively within the law and to resist provocations. "We simultaneously urge the children of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church and all our compatriots to demonstrate responsibility in this difficult situation and to make every effort to overcome the existential challenges facing the homeland, while ensuring the unwavering preservation and strengthening of Armenian statehood," the statement read.
