EU Regrets Georgian Parliament Overcoming Foreign Agents Law Veto
The European Union deeply regrets that the Georgian Parliament has overcome the veto on the "Foreign Agents Law," stated a joint declaration by EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell and the European Commission.
“This law contradicts the fundamental principles and values of the EU and will adversely affect Georgia’s path towards the EU. The EU and its member states are considering all options to respond to these developments,” the statement noted.
It was previously reported that the Georgian Parliament had overturned President Salome Zourabichvili's veto on the "Transparency of Foreign Influence" law. The vote was 84 in favor and 4 against. The law will come into effect the day after it is published on the "Legislative Bulletin" website. Before that, the President of Georgia must sign it within three days, and if she refuses, the law will be signed by the Speaker of Parliament.
