Hungary Blocks All Actions Related to Military Support for Ukraine, Reports Financial Times
Hungary is blocking the release of revenue from Russia's frozen assets to meet the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This information was reported by the Financial Times, citing its sources.
European Union countries have agreed to transfer nearly two billion euros to Ukraine after lengthy negotiations; however, Hungary’s representative opposed the initiative during a meeting of EU ambassadors, thus delaying the funds' transfer to Kyiv.
“Currently, they are blocking everything related to military support for Ukraine,” one of five sources familiar with the negotiations told the publication on the condition of anonymity.
In order to sign an agreement on using profits from Russian frozen assets, European officials offered Hungary a deal stipulating that its share of Brussels' funds would not be used for purchasing weapons for Ukraine, one other source disclosed. This convinced Budapest not to veto the initiative, but now it is obstructing the transfer of those funds to Kyiv.
