Mamijanyan Comments on Khachatur Sukiasyan's Statements
The leader of the "Honorary Title" faction in the National Assembly of Armenia, Hayk Mamijanyan, addressed the statements made by Civil Contract faction MP Khachatur Sukiasyan during parliamentary briefings, stating that he fears nothing and that they can start with him as well.
Earlier, we reported that on May 22, in the National Assembly, Khachatur Sukiasyan announced that the opposition is hindering Armenia from becoming a strong state. He mentioned that looking back over the years, one can see how those who have associated with foreign countries have been treated by Armenia's leaders. Sukiasyan assured that they have been treated very poorly—either those individuals ended up in prison, died, or were dispossessed.
Sukiasyan then called on the opposition to recognize their limits; otherwise, the tools that have been used for the past 20 years would be applied against them. "Until today, they did this without announcing it—persecuting people, intimidating, and causing bodily harm to individuals under the protection and supervision of police. Now they are finally announcing it. Good luck, they can start with me. Dispossessing, killing, imprisoning—none of us is afraid of this," noted Mamijanyan.
Speaking about another of Sukiasyan's statements, in which he claimed that the opposition and certain citizens of Armenia serve other states, the opposition MP said: "They are trying to label this or that political figure, patriots, and those who are fighting for Armenia's future—whether in the streets or in the National Assembly. They are trying to label and turn them into representatives of someone else's interests. But there is a fact: Turkish President Erdogan has repeatedly stated that he is in favor of Civil Contract remaining in power in Armenia. Aliyev, last November in our Stepanakert, stated that after the war there were several opportunities for pro-Armenian forces, even though he calls them revanchists, to come to power, but they prevented this at all costs. Thus, on one side are Khachatur Sukiasyan’s words, and on the other, the facts," emphasized Mamijanyan. He highlighted that Civil Contract serves the interests of the leaders of Turkey and Azerbaijan, therefore Sukiasyan should look for agents among their ranks.
